Verizon Blackberry Pearl

Well I finally got my new Pearl from Verizon. It's been out for like 10 days already! Anyways, I've only had it for 1 day and I love it. So much more than the 8830. The new browser on the 4.3 os is killer. Nznav looks cool, but it's not active for me yet.

So far pocketday won't install because of the 4.3 os. I have not tried Idokorro yet, but I will soon.

Oh and the suretype is killer on this thing.

I'm putting a lot of faith in this device. I am going on vacation for 2 weeks and leaving my trusty 8703 behind. I had an 8830 and went back to my 8703, that's how much I liked the 8703.

Have a magical day!

iMac first impressions

So far only 1 complaint.  The keyboard cable is too short to fit in our armoire with a keyboard drawer.  I found and old usb extension cable and problem solved.

Besides that, it is wicked fast compared to our 1ghz g4 iMac.

I have not had a chance to play with iPhoto or any other iLife 08 apps yet.  All I have done is browsed our iPhoto library which is really fast.  Our old mac used to peg the proc just viewing thumbnails.

Look for some new webpages at http://homepage.mac.com/one.happy.family

Oh, and I LOVE the new keyboard design.

iMac has Arrived!

Well, I was way off on how it would get here.

From Anchorage it went to Indianapolis
From Indianapolis it went to St Louis
From St Louis to Collinsville
From Collinsville to my house

All in 1 day.

Total travel time 3 days.

I can't wait to see how it compares to our G4 iMac :)

Lotus 8!

Lotus Domino / Notes 8 will be released on Friday, August the 17th 2007.

I've been using the beta for months now and it is by far the best Notes client ever.

I wish we could upgrade the server at work to 8, but that requires an upgrade to our iSeries which I don't see happening any time soon.

The travels of a new iMac

I ordered a new 20" iMac last Friday. I've been checking the shipping status every once in a while and I think it's interesting. So how does a new iMac get to Troy, IL?

Well it starts in Shanghai China, from there it goes to Anchorage Alaska.
Travel time so far 2 days.

Estimated Travel time 5 days. Not bad, coming half way around the world.

Where will it go next? My guess Memphis, then St Louis, then my house.

We'll find out tomorrow if i was right with the next stop.

Google Maps 1.5.2 for 8830

Downloaded a new version today and it is still not locating me. It's my guess that it will never work as Verizon likes you to pay extra for this stuff, even though they don't have a solution for it on the blackberry's.

Madeline turns 5!

For all the family and friends out there Madeline turned 5 today!

Who knew there was so much Disney Princess stuff?

Only 6 1/2 months untill we are on Main Street USA again!

Google Maps is GPS aware on 8830

I just downloaded Google maps v1.5.1 for the 8830 and it appears to be GPS aware. It's tries to locate me but says the signal strength is too weak to locate. I'll try it again tomorrow and see what it does. This would be awesome!

Also, Gmail is working with no problem on the 8830.

Blackberry 8830 Impressions

I am fortunate to already have a Blackberry 8830 in my hands. I got it late Friday as a demo device from our Verizon rep.

After a couple of days of use, here are my thoughts so far.

Survived 4 ft drop, came apart but no scratches or cracks or anything
The phone is slick, almost dropped it several times
Love the track pad, almost natural now after only a few days.
Screen is awesome, better than 8703
Don't like the pouch, wish it had a holster or open pouch
Solid feeling, like the form factor
The keyboard is weird. The keys are recessed or something. Harder to type than 8703
Can use it well it either hand with track pad
I like that it has a built in spellchecker

Apps that run with no problem so far.
Idokorro Mobile Admin (best app evr for BB, I use it every day)
Pocketday from crossriversystems.com

There is a new theme that looks like a Today screen. I still like pocketday for instant weather info.

I'll have it for about a week, I'll post any other thoughts about it.

That's it, my first blog!
