Will Android take over iOS?

During my idoSphere presentation I was asked the following question. "Do you think that Android will overtake iOS?"

To be honest I wasn't prepared for questions like this and I kind of blew it. I said something like "I'm not sure, my wife has an iPhone and it is perfect for her."

Well after thinking about it a little I have a better answer. And my answer is a resounding YES. I can  say that without hesitation because of one word "Choice."

As good as iOS is you don't have any choice on the hardware and for the most part carrier. Plus you have to deal with whatever Steve thinks is the next big idea.

Let's compare them to buying a car. If you buy a Honda Civic, you really only have 3 options. Trim level, Auto / Manual and Color. That sounds a lot like an iPhone. 3GS or 4, 16gb or 32gb, that's it.

Now let's look at a Chevy truck. 1/2, 3/4 or full ton, 2wd or 4wd, gas or diesel, Auto / manual, rear-end gear ratios, colors, etc...  With Android you can pick your screen size, carrier, keyboard or no keyboard, 1 camera or 2 cameras, etc...

So that's my take on it. What do you do you think?  Leave me a note in the comments.

Android 101, idosphere slides posted

Here are my sides from today's IdoSphere webinar.  If you want to see how to install Traveler on an AT&T device take a look at the slides.  It's easy and it works, but of course it's not supported.
